ARB Cyclery offers a different experience for your Saturday morning group ride. There are plenty of weekend rides that go out hard. If you can't keep up, you won't see the group again. Often times, the group ends up splintered across the route. If you're looking to test yourself and ride at your limit, this is fine. At ARB, we provide a different option and one which we think more cyclists are looking for. Our goal is to keep the group together throughout the ride to foster a more social atmosphere and develop greater camraderie amongst the "club"--all while getting in a good workout!
Keeping a group together can be difficult with riders of different abilities. The primary means of accomplishing this is having defined re-group points at the top of climbs or other difficult sections. This means that the fittest riders will have to stop and wait a few extra minutes during the ride. However, we have found that most don't mind this compared to the benefits of riding together. Group riding also allows stronger riders to take on the wind by riding up front, while other riders keep up by riding in the draft.
Our Saturday ride rotates through 4 road routes. Occasionally the ride leader may decide to make some changes depending on the weather or road construction. At times, depending on the type and number of riders, we may split into "A" and "B" groups based on fitness and experience levels so that re-groups aren't too long. Every so often, we will mix in a "remote" ride on Sundays. This allows us to get outside of Orange County and try some of the amazing variety of terrain Southern California has to offer.

The Ride 411
All rides leave from ARB Cyclery at the intersection of Main Street and Red Hill Avenue at 9:00am. The shop opens at 8am to accommodate any last minute needs you may have. Forgot a spare tube or energy gel? No problem. Have any last minute mechanical issues? Our Service Department will be glad to help you out. And, we'll have the coffee brewing in case you need a morning jolt. After the ride, hang out at the shop to enjoy complimentary bagels and coffee while watching the latest races on our flat screen TV in the Breakaway Café. And of course, check out the latest bikes and accessories.
All riders are welcome, but we do recommend a minimum level of fitness for our rides. In general, you should be able to ride at least 17 mph on a flat road surface (without a headwind). At re-group points, we wait for all riders to catch up within a reasonable amount of time. While we do our best to keep everyone together, if you are not at a minimum level of fitness, or are having a bad day, you could get dropped. There is nothing wrong with this, as there is no time limit! We'll see you back at the shop! If you do get dropped, please don't get discouraged. We have seen plenty of riders who could not stay with the group the first few weeks, but gradually improved to the point where they became one of the strongest riders!
Routes are subject to change depending on weather, group preference and other factors. Check our Facebook Page for any "last minute" updates!!
