What Does "ARB" stand for?
Lots of companies have acronyms in their name. Think BMW, CVS, DHL and in our own industry, BMC. Ever curious what they stand for? Many of our current customers know the history of ARB, but as time passes, fewer will know the story. Quite simply, ARB stands for A Road Bike. Yes, it's that simple! Actually, there is a little more to the story. ARB Cyclery started out as A Road Bike 4U back in 2003. It was a relatively small, "under the radar" shop with a funny name until new ownership in 2009. By 2010, the store was completely remodeled and expanded to its current footprint in the heart of Irvine's Business District. Customers began calling us "ARB4U" for short and after awhile many simply dropped the 4U. So we began branding the store "ARB" until we finally decided to officially change the name at the beginning of 2016. Now you have the whole story!
We Now Offer a Full Range of Bicycles!
Historially ARB focused on road bicycles - in other words, any bike that was primarily meant for pavement. In addition to traditional road bikes, that includes triathlon/time trial bikes, commuter/hybrid bikes, and even track/fixed gear bikes. More recently, the definitition of "Road" has expanded. You are now seeing more "road" bikes on dirt. The traditional road bike has expanded its horizons by being capable of hitting hard-packed dirt and gravel trails. These fall under the category of the "Endurance" or "Classics" road bike. Then there is the "Cyclocross" bike. This looks like a road bike, but with clearance for wider, knobby tires. Although not at the level of a pure mountain bike, these bikes can handle steeper and more technical dirt trails than the Classics road bike, making them true all-arounders. Another term for the Cyclocross bike is the "Gravel Grinder." Coinciding with our name change, ARB Cyclery is excited to say that we also offer Mountain Bikes, including the expertise of those who ride mountain regularly. Look for our selection of mountain bikes to grow as we move forward!
We Believe In Fit First
At ARB Cyclery, we believe fit is of utmost importance when purchasing a new bicycle. A proper fit will enhance comfort and performance, keeping you motivated to ride as often as you like. A proper fit will also reduce the chance of any repetitive motion injuries. Because we believe fit is so important, we encourage our customers to be sized first, and then find the bike brand and model that works best for their body type, riding style and of course, budget.
Bicycle Maintenance & Repair
If you need a tune-up or repair work, we believe you'll find no better place to service your bike than ARB Cyclery. Our mechanics are not hidden in a back room as you'll find in many bike shops. They are not only experts at what they do, but they enjoy working with customers to explain what is needed and why. They'll give you tips on how to maintain your bike to enhance your overall cycling experience. For example, you'd be amazed at the difference you'll feel in a clean drivetrain versus a dirty drivetrain! We work on all types of bicycles from that vintage 1970s Bianchi to mountain bikes to the most sophisticated triathlon machine, and everything in between.
Physical & Online Presence
We have both a "bricks and mortar" and "clicks and mortar" store. Our website is an extension of our physical store. It's a great place to do research on bikes and accessories as well as see what we have in stock. It also provides convenience. Customers can order online and either pickup their items in the store, or have the items shipped to their home. We encourage you to call or email us if you have any questions or need some advice. We strive to respond as quickly as possible to customer inquiries and we want you to be 100% satisfied with your online buying experience.
In the store, our customers range from those purchasing their first quality bike (i.e. a notch above Big Box brands from the likes of Target or Dick's Sporting Goods) to top level racers. Most fall somewhere in between, people we like to call cycling enthusiasts. But what they all have in common is that they are looking for quality products and even more importantly, the personal & knowledgeable one-on-one service you just can't replicate online. We are a place where you can feel part of the local community of cyclists, not just an Amazon tracking number. That is why we put on a shop rides and other related community events. Our goal is not just to sell bikes, but to offer you a lifestyle which gets you excited to ride and keep riding.
Friendly, Non-Intimidating Service
Yes… we carry some high end bikes, but we don't carry the pretentious attitude prevalent in many bike shops. We strive to treat each customer with warm, friendly and knowledgeable service, regardless of budget or experience level. Even the most experienced riders were new to the sport at one point.
Our goal is to get new riders excited about all the benefits cycling has to offer and help them grow with the sport. In addition to helping you find the perfect bike, we'll help you choose the right clothing and accessories, everything from shorts and shoes to saddles and nutritional products.
Variety of Quality Bike Brands
We are not a "concept" store, focusing on one major brand like Nike or Specialized. Instead, we offer a variety of complete bikes and frames from some of the best manufacturers in the world. Because every rider is unique, it doesn't make sense to impose one brand on everyone. We provide more options to find the right bike for you.
