About the SoCal Endurance Lab

Introduction

The Southern California Endurance Lab is Orange County, California's premier facility for evaluating and improving endurance athlete performance, with a primary focus on the sports of cycling and triathlon.  The lab consists of four main functional areas:

1. VO2 Max/Anaerobic (Lactate) Threshold Testing
2. State-of-the-Art Bicycle Fitting
3. Coaching/Training
4. Massage

The mission of the SoCal Endurance Lab is to help athletes of all levels reach their personal athletic goals.  Our technology and expertise is at the level of elite Olympic and Professional athletes, but our clientele is not limited to them.  Whether your goal is to become a pro cyclist, place in your age group in a triathlon, or simply hang with the pack on your weekend group ride, we can help you get there.

The truth is that if you really want to become a better cyclist or triathlete, the SoCal Endurance Lab is where you need to start.  Yes, equipment can make some difference, but it's YOU, the engine, that is the primary factor!

How to Use the SoCal Endurance Lab

  1. Come in with a specific goal or goals (examples include:  finish on the podium in a particular race; set a PR in a triathlon, marathon or gran fondo century ride; comfortably finish a multi-day cycling tour; drop 50 pounds).
  2. Optimize your bike fit.  Let us know if you are having any discomfort on your rides.  We want to address these issues first and then look at other factors such as improved aerodynamics and power.  Small changes in position can lead to significant performance gains without increased fitness.
  3. Learn how to pedal your bike more efficiently, with less wasted energy.  It's called "pedaling in circles" and takes some muscle memory before it becomes second nature.  We can analyze your pedal stroke utilizing the Computrainer spinscan software and provide you with drills to become more efficient.  Again, increase your power output and average speed without any increased fitness.
  4. Establish your current metabolic fitness profile through a VO2 Max - Anaerobic (Lactate) Threshold test.  This will determine your current state of fitness, including your strengths, weaknesses and overall potential.  Your current threshold number will allow us to develop your training zones - critical for mapping out your training plan going forward.
  5. During regular training, work with our massage therapist to help you recover properly after strenuous workouts and get your body in optimal condition for your next big race or event.
  6. Work with our coach to create a training plan and monitor your progress (we could also refer you to area coaches or recommend some good training books).
